About Training For Life ─ a Brief Introduction

Mission

Training For Life is a non-profit 501c3 organization dedicated to "Empowering Individuals & Communities Through Education & Training and thereby Increasing the Quality & Quantity of Life."

History

September 11th, 2001. That awesomely horrible day, our founder, Scott Caruthers, responded to the World Trade Center in his capacity with the Regional Emergency Medical Services Council of New York City (REMSCO).

Officially formed on October 4th, 2001, training immediately began, and soon Training For Life earned the distinction of becoming an authorized American Heart Association Community Training Center as well as a signing a Letter of Agreement to assist New York City's Office of Emergency Management (OEM) by providing advanced training to eligible Community Emergency Response Teams (CERT).

Present

We continue to conduct regularly scheduled CPR & First Aid courses, which are open to the general public, as well as privately commissioned courses for organizations and groups.

Receiving recognition under Section 501c3 in 2006, thus eligible to seek grant funding for many of our community-based programs, we continue our search for Community Partnering opportunities and are fortunate to have found the very best of humanity to aid us; each with a shared belief in Service Before Self.

Future

With the ultimate goal of establishing, or helping to establish, Community Training Centers capable of providing training in not only Emergency preparedness but a myriad of other, more optimistic, skills. The intention is to draw upon other individuals or organizations in the community with something to "share" in order to continuously enrich our course offerings and serve the needs of local residents.

Mission & History

In the days after responding to the September 11th, 2001 attacks on the World Trade Center, our founder, Scott Caruthers, a Service Disabled Veteran of the United States Navy (Desert Shield/Storm), began Training For Life, Inc. in order to enhance the emergency preparedness capability of his community; our Mission Statement:

Empowerment through Education Training  Thereby  Increasing the Quantity & Quality of Life

Through its ongoing outreach and training activity, Training For Life was recognized by the IRS as non-profit 501c3 organization and earned the distinction of becoming an American Heart Association (AHA) Community Training Center in 2005.

Expanding training activities beyond New York City and working with organizations such as The United Nations Association, Training For Life helped to place Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) as far away as Nigeria; and assisted an international coalition in creating the first Heart Association Training Center in the Caribbean Basin (2009).

In 2020, Training For Life was invited to become a Philips Medical Systems Gold Distributor of the finest AEDs & peripherals on Earth. We also provide AED Program Oversight Services, required by many states, as well as optional Onsite AED Surveys and Simulated Emergencies, in order to gauge response capacity of a client’s team/facility.

In addition to conducting countless trainings in the US and South America; we provide Training Center Services to more than 100 American Heart Association Basic & Advanced Life Support Instructors across the country, issuing thousands of course credentials each year; and ultimately responsible for training more than a million people in various forms of emergency preparedness in our 20+ years; and we’re just getting started!
